Grand Cayman

On Friday Aug 3 at 10:30 pm, Chelsea, Brett, and I left SFO.  Chris, leaving from LAX at the same time, met us in Charlotte, NC.  From there, we flew to Grand Cayman together.

They keep the Cayman Islands in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, about 150 miles south of Cuba. We returned just about two weeks before hurricane Dean hit.  Actually, the hurricane's full force missed the islands by a small distance.

On Sat around noon, after getting through customs, picking up the car, and getting good and lost, we eventually made it to the room, which was quite lovely. Eating out at Grand Cayman is very expensive, so we made most of our meals in this kitchen.  Chelsea made most of the lunches.

Chris and Brett helped out by watching ESPN, and keeping an eye on the Barry Bonds saga. He broke the record while we were there.  (They also helped with meals, kinda...).

The patio overlooking the pool. It was all very nice.

We went to the supermarket Sat night. The place is a lot like Safeway, and not much more expensive.  Capt'n Kirk has his hand in just about everything.

Our vehicle - this Toyota Yaris. Nice car..with one small problem: they put the steering wheel on the wrong side.  Maybe that is to compensate for them driving on the wrong side of the street.  I never did get comfortable with that.  Chris was the chief navigator - great with a map.

Some traffic signs, also on the wrong side of the highway. "Give way" is posted in the 'turn-about' circles.  That is a real picnic when going the wrong way through the circle.

Nevertheless, we quickly hit the road to explore Grand Cayman's West Side.

Brett was the random photographer. See his collection of random shots.
