Oregon

In June, 2006 Chelsea and I took a drive north. We had been talking since the middle of winter about driving to Oregon to kayak and sail when the weather is nice.

On a related note, I decided it was time to give the hot tub in my yard back to its rightful owner, Gus. So I started to shop for one of my own and found a brand new Signature Spa on EBay for about $2K less than a comparable one at a dealer around here. So I bought it. Turns out, the Signature factory is 15 miles up the road from where Jamie lives in Bend, Or. I could pay $500 to have them ship it down here, or I could go up and get it with my utility trailer.

Everything fell into place. Chelsea was working in Eureka, so I drove up there on Sat.

We stayed two nights at her friend's beach house in Trinidad. One on the way up, and one on the way back. Guess which one this is?

Chelsea paddling hard in the lagoon.

A group paddle: Chelsea with her friends Christie and Alderon. Tight fit in that kayak.

After a beautiful drive into South Oregon, we drove through Crater Lake.

They still had one ski run open; the super black diamond run, straight down into the lake. Watch out for that first step!

Another shot from Crater Lake back toward where the previous picture was taken. How many old volcanos can you spot?

We stayed at Diamond Lake, across the highway 10 miles north of Crater Lake.

Another view of the lake. Very pretty.

Leaving Diamond Lake, Highway 138. Straight for 20 miles.

Kayaking on the Deschutes river, just south of Bend. Jamie rented a kayak for the day.

Jamie loves horses.

Jamie in front of a lava bed. Volcanos everywhere!

And a video of the beginning of a feeder stream. Very wierd!

And on the way back home, a familiar California volcano, Mt Shasta.
