June and I stayed at the Marriot a resort that June got from her timeshare. I thought it was nice, but June kept calling it a 'lockup' (or was it 'lock-off'). Regardless, we had a great time, again attending the night sessions, especially with our experience last year with one day session. June and I played golf at one of the Marriot Resorts.
We played tennis one evening with some some ladies that we met somewhere. Ed and I played tennis one morning at some public courts, but had to wait about 30 minutes to get on. It is very hard to find open courts while the tennis tournament is going on.
We then packed up and went to Scottsdale where we met Bruce, Maryanne, and Mic.
In Arizona, we stayed at Mike's place in Surprise.
March 7 - We drove straight through to Palm Springs via the Bakersfield / Morongo Valley, stopping at the 'Dig your own Cactus' nursery. I think we bought something there.
8 - We settled into our digs at Marriot's Shadow Ridge 'The Villages' in
a 'lock-off' room. It didn't have a microwave or refrigerator. But it had
a great view out the tiny window. We hiked that day at Tahquitz
(tah-Quish) Canyon which ends in a waterfall at the far end of the valley.
FYI: The Cahuilla (ca-We-ya) Tribe also owns and operates the nearby
Indian Canyon land and has several popular hiking trails. Both require
entrance fees.
9 - Played golf at Desert Springs Golf Club at the Marriot.
10 - Went to Indian Wells tennis tournament. We always go early in the tournament and get grounds passes, which allows us to see many players and get up close to the court in one of the many outer courts. The Bryan brothers played music at one of the many venues.
11 - Visited the downtown area of Palm Desert, including the CODA Art Gallery.
12 - Back to Indian Wells tennis.
13 - Back to Indian Wells tennis. Then we left for Surprise Az. and Mike's condo. Also in the area that week were Bruce and Maryanne along with Kate, and Mic and Rich.
14 - Ballgame at Salt River with Dennis and Mary, Spring Training home field for the Arizona Diamondbacks.
15 - Hiked at the White Tank Mountains which is filled with Pertroglyphs (ancient writing on rocks) and usually a small waterfall at the end.
16 - Not sure
17 - St. Paddy's! - Played golf at Coyote Lakes with Mic and Rich. That night we headed to downtown Scottsdale to celebrate with the Harringtons and Mic / Rich. We met Gregor Blanco in the 'midget bar'.18 - Hike at the Sonoran Mountain Preserve.
19 - Ballgame at the Milwaukee Brewer's field in Scottsdale.
20 - Golf at Palm Desert Golf Club with Geoff and Sue. Then we took in a ballgame with Mic at the Giant's Scottsdale stadium.
21 - Stayed with Brandon and Moye
22 - Drove home.
