Old Boullet Photos

I got a folder of these photos from Anthony on 8/30/2021. He got them from Maria, who got them from Mom's house when it was cleaned out when she went into Green Hills back in 2009 or so.

These photos were all glued to 7 1/2" x 10 1/4" pages. The 6 pages were, at one time, bound to a spine. The spine has handwriting that is barely legible now. However, with the magic of digital imagery, I can make out 'RW Boullet + P Closker'. Rene Westley Boullet is our great grandfather's brother. There is plenty of evidence that he had and used a camera.

Here's a short history of the first commercially available 'Kodak' camera which could have been used to take these photos. It was essential that the early cameras be mounted on a tripod, so the photographer doesn't have to be skilled in anyway. This means that one of the people in the following photos could easily be RW Boullet.
Here is a short history of the coloration that appears in some of the following photos. It is possible, in fact likely, that the images were painted by the amateur photographer.

These pictures were taken around 1900. I know this from the following photo and the attached link.

The roof of the building shows "...TES THEATRE".  There used to be 3  'Chutes' amusement parks in San Francisco around 1900. I think this building was the Haight location. Check out this fascinating stuff!!

If this is Joseph Boullet Jr., he is our Grandpa's dad, our Great Grandfather. Born April 11, 1879 (about 19 yrs. old here)

No idea...except the J.Hassler Oak. '98 may be the guy who sent the film in for developing. A similar marking is on the last picture on this page, except is shows 'RW Boullet'

The following 4 photos were on a full page each, following one another. The photographer was doing some early 'photo shopping'.

The 2 guys on either side of the guy in the middle (the ringleader?) were somehow copied into the frame as sort of a mirror image. Easy to do digitally, but not so easy in the 'film' days. The photographer probably did this himself; not by sending the camera back to Kodak.

Another trick shot. I don't see J.Boullet in either of these.

The ringleader and one of the other two guys from the above photos, looks like trying to use up film.

An example of amateur colorization gone bad

There was barely a caption on this, except for a '98. It must mean 1898, and it is the same location as the image above, so July 4, 1898 in Oakland, where the early Boullet's lived.

I guess some credit goes to the Spanish (Portuguese) sailors (Columbus) who discovered America (the Caribbean)

Here's a film waster if I ever saw one.

No idea, but R.W. Boullet (Rene Westley Boullet) appears here. This would be Joseph Boullet's older brother.
