Birding at Point Lobos
  June 2025

June and I joined Emily and David at Steve and Sherlyn's place for a Wed to Sat adventure in Monterey. David had read online that a rare Yellow-crowned Heron was spotted at Point Lobos. So on Friday, David, Steve and I went looking for it.

On our beautiful walk there we saw the following other birds...

LOTS of Brandt's Cormorants

Some of the Brandt's Cormorants breeding adults have a blue throat.

At last, the main attraction: a Yellow-Crowned Night Heron. Not common to this area, they are usually seen on the East coast of the USA and other parts of the world. Unbelievable that David spotted this camouflaged bird at least 500 yards away with his eagle eyes!
