Common Raven

Raven or Crow - What's the difference?

Technically not a bird, but a very beautiful Swallowtail Butterfly

Technically not a bird, the White-lined Sphinx Hummingbird Moth is actually an insect. (Aug, 2023)

 Mourning Dove

 California Scrub Jay

 Dark-eyed Junco

 Anna's Hummingbird (female)

 Oak Titmouse

Randomly spotted this one on the apple tree one day.

One day in the spring of 2021, June noticed this family of Titmice moved into the birdhouse in her yard. They stayed for several weeks, then abruptly moved out. Lots of chirping was heard at all times of the day.

 California Towhee

This bird and it's mate setup a nest in our Mandarin tree for a couple weeks. They were both flying in and out, and keeping watch over the area. Then they seemed to abandon it.

 A Pine Siskin (above)

Lesser Goldfinch (below) - A flock of these visit this feeding sock filled with Niger seeds

...but this female Lesser Goldfinch is the first one we have seen feeding on this natural purple plant.

 Hermit Thrush

Showed up in the yard in Jan 2022 with a bunch of buddies. Merlin was NO help. David ID'd it.

 Western Bluebird

 Acorn Woodpecker

Bushtit

Female, because it has pale eyes. We have seen large flocks of 20 or more of these come into the yard and flit about, moving constantly from bush to bush, and then they all suddenly leave. Finally, in October 2024, I went to get my camera and I was lucky to catch one sitting still in open site for a few seconds.

I happened to be walking at Foothills with David, the professional birder, who spotted, identified, and helped photograph this beautiful specimen.
