Anna's
Hummingbird (female) |
Randomly spotted this one on the apple tree one day. |
One day in the spring of 2021, June noticed this family of Titmice moved into the birdhouse in her yard. They stayed for several weeks, then abruptly moved out. Lots of chirping was heard at all times of the day. |
This bird and it's mate setup a nest in
our Mandarin tree for a couple weeks. They were both flying in and
out, and keeping watch over the area. Then they seemed to abandon
it. |
A Pine Siskin (above) Lesser Goldfinch (below) - A flock of these visit this feeding sock filled with Niger seeds ...but this female
Lesser Goldfinch is the first one we have seen feeding on this
natural purple plant. |
Showed up in the yard in Jan 2022 with a bunch of buddies. Merlin was NO help. David ID'd it. |

Female, because it has
pale eyes. We have seen large flocks of 20 or more of these come
into the yard and flit about, moving constantly from bush to bush,
and then they all suddenly leave. Finally, in October 2024, I went
to get my camera and I was lucky to catch one sitting still in
open site for a few seconds. |
15. Cooper's Hawk June spotted it flying
in and out of the backyard in mid-January 2021 |
16. Osprey June and I were walking passed Pond B in Foothills Park when she spotted this hawk circling near us. Shortly after I took this picture, the bird swooped down and dove violently into the pond attempting to catch a fish. Click the link above to read about it's great fishing prowess. Dec. 2022 |
I happened to be
walking at Foothills with David, the professional birder, who
spotted, identified, and helped photograph this beautiful
specimen. |

18. Mr and Mrs Bufflehead Dec. 2022. As usual in the animal kingdom, the male is the more colorful one. |
