On Tues and Wed afternoon, we hung out at Rum Point. Fun for everyone!
View from our car, where we ate our sandwiches and drank Rum Punch. Chris and Brett finally broke down and bought a couple of average cheeseburgers and drinks...$25. |
Great snorkeling, but Chris and Brett got a bit burnt out on the snorkeling. Chelsea and I could not get enough. |
The bay (shallow) part is nice swimming, but not many fish. Beyond that, in the darker part, is good snorkeling. This is the very sharp 'corner' of rum point (see next two arial pics). This area did require a fair amount of swimming to get out and back in. |
Rum Point from the air. |
Rum Point, North Sound, and much of Grand Cayman. |
Tortuga, on the North east end of the island. Very pretty, but not great snorkeling. |
Here is a spot on the North Side, near Old Man Bay,. The "Great Barrier Reef" is very close to shore as you can see here. We were told that in places outside the reef the ocean floor drops to 1500 ft. So Chels, Chris, and I swam out to get a look. Out about 100 yds is a light pole marking the channel through the reef. We went another 100 yds beyond the light pole, well into the deep blue. It got deeper, but never more than about 50 ft deep. We turned around and gave up. If we are going to see the deep blue, we are going to have to pay for a submarine ride. |
