On Sat. Oct. 27th we headed to Hilton Head Island for a week of family time, and the wedding of our niece Katie. We flew into Savannah airport and rented a car for the week, knowing we would leave out of Jacksonville Florida for a week in the Bahamas.
We stayed on Shipyard Plantation at Egret Point, a timeshare exchange that would allow us, the kids, and grand kids to all fit. It was a bit dated, but worked well, with a nice pool.
We had a few days to hang out with the family before the kids showed up, so spent lots of meals with Kim, Rick, then Katie and Zach, Mike, and an occasional appearance from Ken.
We had some nice beach walks, and bike rides with the 2 beach cruisers provided with the timeshare. Nothing like riding along the shoreline on the hard packed sand of the Carolinas.
The day before the kids arrived we took a water taxi over to Dufuskie Island. While Haig Point had become private, we toured the rest of the island in our golf cart rental, and caught up on the history of the island.
The following day the kids all arrived and activities revolved a bit more around nap schedules and wedding obligations.
Gary and Garrett went to play golf with Zach and Rick on Wed, while the rest of us enjoyed a beach day with the rest of the family. It was great to see Katie meet her two baby cousins at the beach! And to celebrate Halloween we met up with the family at Kens for dinner and trick or treating. Rumi was a princess while Cora went as a butterfly.
On Thurs. we ventured out on the intercoastal waterways for a 90 min dolphin tour with the company Kel works for. Within the first 5 minutes we were drenched in a downpour, but dried out quickly and saw lots of dolphins and water birds. Our crew went out to dinner alone at Chow daddy and called it a night.
On Fri morning Alicia headed out early to be with the wedding party for the day. Gary and Garrett headed out for the wedding golf tournament. Brandon ,Moye, and Reed headed to Savannah, and I took Rumi and Cora to the beach at the Westin where we met up with Sherlyn.
That night Brandon and Moye were gracious enough to stay with the kids while the rest of us headed out for the rehearsal dinner at Dockside. The wedding festivities had officially begun!
On Nov. 4th, the big wedding day, we checked out of the time share and headed to the Westin hoping for our early check-in to happen quickly. Alicia once again headed off to hair and make-up wedding preparations. We got the kids rooms fairly quickly, and Gary and I took off for a nice beach walk and lunch. We barely got our room in time to get ready, and barely got to the church on time, but we made it and watched a beautiful wedding. Back to the Westin we went for the party and dinner. Lots of dancing and a good time had by all.
Sun morning found us back at Ken's for a get together breakfast with the family and all those that were still on island from the wedding. That evening we went to dinner at Truffles in Bluffton with the family....and had a sad goodbye, as everyone would be leaving in the morning.
Off to the Bahamas for another adventure!
