Written by June from the 'Cabin Log'.
Gary and I came up for a longer stay (7/1 to 7/13). Celebrating my
birthday, and official retirement and getting some work done.
7/7 - Glorious birthday/retirement! Gary took me to Firesign for
breakfast, 18 holes at Tahoe City golf course, Thai lunch in Tahoe city,
and dinner/Mai-Tais at Sunnyside.
Hikes:
- We found a cool trail off of Grouse that led to a stream and larger
service road. It came out on Chamberland drive behind the gate where
Ellis comes in.
- Found a hike from here and from Lodge/Meadow that goes up to Quail
Lake, a beautiful lake with lily pads and ducks.
- We hiked from Squaw Valley village to high camp about 3.5 miles and
2000 ft elevation gain.Great views! In summer you can ride the tram down
free from high camp. They were having a kite/music festival at high
camp.
- We hiked the Rubicon trail off McKinney rd. We rode bikes to the
bridge. A local said the road goes up to a lookout over Quail Lake.
Apparently we didn't go far enough.
- We took a short hike in Sugarpine to "the lighthouse".
Biking:
- We rode bikes with David and Annette (they stayed the 3rd and 4th with
us) to Barker Pass rd. in Blackwood Canyon.
- We also rode to Sugarpine State park to watch fireworks on the 4th.
Scary night ride!
- We rode up Ward canyon a short way, but it was too steep and too hot.
We drove up instead and at the end we found Alpine Meadows ski-lift
chairs.
Music:
- Tried the Friday night music at Kings Beach - Groove Session. Not so
good, but watched hang-gliders fly in and land on the beach.
- Sunday 4:30 - Went to music at Commons Beach - Mumbo Gumbo. Very good
and big crowd. Bought a CD.
Work:
- Gary sanded and stained the mantle. He also built a rock border in
front and fixed the hose.
- I organized drawers, cupboards, and closets.
- We hired Jacob to make the deck/landing out back.
- We brought up a new vacuum, salad plates, and tall glasses.
- I contracted the guy at Chambers to paint a picture to hang over the
mantle.
See the pics.
