Chris and Teresa decided that snowboarding is one of the things that they could enjoy together. I could have thought of a whole list of things that are a lot safer, but that's just me. So they bought themselves equipment for Christmas and have already been up several times this year, including a weekend on South shore at a place arranged by June.
So, June and I have been wanting to go up in the snow since we bought our 2014 Subaru. We invited Chris and Teresa to meet us at the cabin for the President's weekend, which coincided with Valentines Day this year.
June and I had a nice leisurely drive up on Friday morning. No rain or snow was predicted for the entire weekend.
We immediately discovered that the firewood pile was buried in ice and snow. I spent an hour or two digging it out.
June and I snow showed each day.
On Saturday, we walked up to the closest Homewood ski run. We got there pretty quickly, so went back down and then hiked up the Quail spillway. We were surprised to find a family there, along with two young men who had snowboarded down Quail face and ended up at the dam. They asked, and I confirmed, that it would be easier for them to snowboard down the spillway then to walk back up to Homewood. So they did, and I got video of one of them heading down.
We met Chris and Teresa at Sunnyside that evening as they drove in from the city. After dinner we headed back to the cabin. They presented June and I with nice sweatshirts to thank us for the weekend.
On Sunday, we had a nice breakfast, then arranged to meet Chris and Teresa at the ski run we found the day before. June and I texted them as we left the cabin, and there they appeared at the meeting point right when we got there. We took a few pictures and video of them. Check it out.
We pretty much just headed back to the cabin after that. June made a wonderful meal of meatloaf, baked potatoes, and vegies that evening. Teresa and I beat up on June and Chris in Sequence as we all had plenty to drink. Good times!
On Monday, Chris helped me take two of the rails off the deck, stack some wood in front of the cabin, and dig out the garbage bin. They headed out soon after that. June and I took a nice walk up to the McKinney Rubicon trail off Bald Trail from the cabin.
Tuesday, we cleaned up and headed out by 11am and made it home by 3pm, record time. Chris and Teresa likewise had a relatively short drive home. Great weekend for me.
