For MANY years I have wanted to sail on Lake Tahoe. I came up with Dan and Brett in July, 2005 with the boat in tow. Sailing didn't happen.
I was turned off by the following:
There are very few (if any?) places to keep the boat in the water without mooring it.
Expensive daily launch and takeout ($50).
Inspections for mussels
No wind
So in July 2012, June and I broke down and went on a afternoon sail with an outfit in Tahoe city. In was WONDERFUL!! There was plenty of wind out in the middle of the lake.
So I made a few calls and found that sailboats don't pay for an inspection if there is no standing water on the boat (luckily I had dried out the pontoons and main hull.
Obexer's keeps their windtoys on a small public beach next to their place. They have had no problems leaving them overnight. They charged about $15 to put the boat in and another to take it out a week later. So off we went!

June on the pontoon. Emerald Bay is just beyond the other sailboat. |

Two days later we headed north towards Tahoe City. We got pretty close to, Fleur de Lac (Flower of the Lake), location of the film The GodFather II, now a complex of high-end condos. |

June reluctantly agrees to take a turn at the helm. She likes to hold the main and jib lines like the reins of a horse. Gitty up! |
