Sunday, Jan 21 - We left Scottsdale and drove to Palm Desert. Gary was feeling super lousy with the Vida Blue flu, so I drove us the whole way! We checked into the Desert Breezes and Gary immediately went into the hot tub, while I went to the store for supplies.
Monday, Jan. 22 - We had a leisurely day- hot tub and recuperation for
Gary. Geoff and Sue arrived and we went down to the adult pool for a
bar-b-que and fire pit.
Tuesday, Jan. 23 - In the morning Gary, Geoff and Sue sauntered to the
lobby for free waffles before we headed out to La Quinta Dunes Golf
Course. A beautiful day, but way to much water on the course for a desert!
For dinner, Geoff, Sue and I made a visit to Mario's and brought home
leftovers for Gary whom was busy video conferencing with his baseball
siblings. We played games, drank wine , and crashed early.
Wednesday, Jan. 24 - We started the day with breakfast at Wilma and
Frieda's before hitting Carlsens golf and the Coda Art Gallery on El
Paseo. I think we may have spent some time on the SLOW putting green at
Desert Breezes on one of these days too.
Thursday, Jan. 25 - A hike to La Quinta Cove in the morn, with a bit of a
lost trail, to the overlook down the wash to the golf course. That evening
we had dinner in Palm Springs at the Fish Market, after shopping at the
Hat Store. We hit the Thursday night street market, which went on
for blocks.
Friday, Jan 26 - Check out day, and on we go to the Oasis Country Club to
pair up with Geoff and Sue's digs. Gary and I went down to El Paseo and
had lunch at Wilma and Frieda's, hit a few shops and gave some time
for Geoff and Sue to settle. The VRBO was not quite what they
expected so they spent most of their time trying to air the stale smoke
smell out, and cleaning. BBQ chicken on the patio....watching golfers go
by.
Saturday, Jan 27 - A leisurely Sat morn with breakfast on the patio.
Geoff, Gary and I went to the super PGA store to check out putters/clubs,
while Sue stayed home to get organized. We went to a golf driving range
for a little hitting practice. Steak bbq on the patio, and finally broke
out with a game of five Crowns (Editorial note: June killed us!)
Sunday, Jan 28 - Breakfast at Elmers and golf at Taquitz Golf Course. Alot
of sand...imagine that. Dinner was a giant salad of left over
meat/chicken...and good wine of course! And a revenge game of Five
Crowns...which still didn't work, no revenge had (by Geoff, Sue, or Gary).
Monday, Jan. 29 - We drove to the Anzo-Borrego State Park and did a nice 3 mile hike to a Palm Oasis. On the drive we marveled at how pretty the Salton Sea looked, and too bad it wasn't still a nice resort instead of a polluted waterway. The hike was relatively easy and we saw some big horn sheep along the way. On the way back Gary and I took the alternative route and had to bushwhack our way to the wash, as the big horn super daddy was to close to the trail to walk it! Great pictures of the sheep though. A quick stop at a Mexican reataurant, and off to see the beautiful desert sculptures in Borrego Springs. There are 130 full metals sculptures by Ricardo Breceda, in total. A very cool sighting indeed!
Tuesday, Jan 30 - Beautiful sunrise, packed and off we go to drive home
and listen to 9 hours of Ken Follett on audible, with a quick breakfast at
JT Diner.
