London Overview

June and I flew into Heathrow airport on Friday afternoon, Sept 13, 2013 and stayed for 4 nights and 3 full days.

From the airport, we boarded the 'Tube' (Subway) and rode about an hour to Covent Garden Station, where we were rudely awakened by a narrow and very crowded flight of about 50 stairs UP to street level. Fortunately (or not) I was carrying all of my belongings in a carry-on backpack. So my hands were free to help June with her suitcase. Then we were surprised to find it lightly drizzling. We had an old-fashioned Garmin GPS so we walked to the VRBO apartment building. We were supposed to meet a woman who was supposed to let us in and show us around. But she wasn't available so she made arrangements for us to go to a local grocery store a couple blocks away to get the key. We eventually got the key and went in. The kitchen had something that rotted on one of the cabinets. They somehow made it right by cleaning out the cabinet and taking some money off.

Another strange occurrence was the washer dryer was in the kitchen under the counter, and the same appliance did both. I think June figured it out.

Quick Story...

On Tuesday morning we took an hour long train ride to Gatwick Airport, headed for Dublin, Ireland. Everything was going quite swimmingly. Then we went through security at Gatwick.

I quickly got through the carry-on bag search and body search. June, right behind me was called out of line. The security woman started to rummage though her carry-on bag. Finally, she reached in and pulled out a pint of Jack Daniels with a few swigs of whiskey left in the bottle. We all froze and stared at the bottle.

Oops,  I completely forgot that I shoved that bottle in her carry-on as we were leaving the flat, thinking that later in the day I would finish 'er off.  "Well I couldn't very well throw it away, could I?"

So I sheepishly took the bottle from her, twisted off the cap, and put down a good mouthful. I offered the remainder to the security guard. She replied, "It's gonna take a WHOLE LOT more than that to get me though this day!" Fair enough; so I polished 'er off.
