Phoenix 2006

I have made the trip for spring training for several years. This year, I took Chris and Mic took his son Michael. I think it is safe to say that we all had a blast. Go to the hike

After getting off the plane in downtown Phoenix, we hit the BOB formerly Bank One Ballpark. The World Baseball tourney was going on that day. This is a view from TGI Fridays where we had dinner. Chris and Michael are not too sure about this...

Dennis set us up at the hotel where he works. Really too nice for us.

This is one of the rooms in this 2-bedroom suite. Michael is sitting in the bathtub (kidding).

Day 1 (Thurs). Giants at Angel stadium in Tempe.

Of course, you-know-who was there.

Along with other incidental players...(Jose Viscaino!)

Barry swings for the fences. He went 1 for 2. Then left with his entourage.

Thursday after the Giants game we took a leisurely drive north. Four hours later, we arrived at the Grand Canyon. We were trying to get in before the big storm. Of course, we had to unwind from a grueling day.  Mic is wondering why young Michael seems to know how this works...

Friday morning we took the short drive to the big hole. It is 25 degrees outside and expecting snow. It is 7000 feet at the rim.

We had about 30 minutes of nice weather. Enough for a couple pics.

Nice shot Michael!

Starting to get overcast...and VERY cold.

On the way out, we stopped at the IMAX to see a great movie about the big hole. Fabulous! But when we got out, the storm was all over us.

The road through Flagstaff was closed, so we detoured, very slowly through Williams. This road looks clear, but we were driving though several inches of snow on the ground for quite a while.

After several hours, we were down an elevation where there was barely snow. We decided to celebrate by throwing snow at each other. Chris froze his hands - we almost had to amputate.

Phoenix went 145 days through the rainy season without rain. Saturday, they got it all back. At least two inches of rain. We wasted the day in Julians, a pool hall / arcade / bowling alley. Coincidentally, Rob and his boy Corey were also in town so we hooked up with them.

"I'm pretty sure I have NOT had enough to drink."
