The Georgia Countryside

We spent most of our 10 days in the beautiful backroads of northern Georgia.

The lay of the land:

  • A - Cutco's house

  • Clayton (red circle) site of Tahullah gorge and rafting.

Cutco's house, from the back yard. Continuing down the hill another hundred feet is the Chatoosee River.

The inside, very organized and well kept. He was very hospitable and we always felt welcome.

"The rock" a beautiful river spot on their property; it was a very popular place for a dip.

Fishing, this was possibly my favorite thing to do, garret constantly getting his swim on. I noticed no matter what time it was, or where we were, garret was always ready for a swim. once when it was just me and him at the rock and it was the day after a storm. the water was brown and the current fast i dared garrett to jump in and he did, much to my surprise, well done garrett.

Video: Brett River Jump.

this picture was taken at a trout farm, he was a very southern gentleman and he was more than happy to have us visit him, his pup (on the ground to his left) was too. we were lucky enough to get the "y'all come back" when we left.

Cleaning and gutting the fish,  Cutco was not afraid at all to get his hands dirty, me and garrett on the other were a bit timid witch made the next picture all the harder to do.

the  face says it all, and i think this is the one time when i was actually more afraid of the fish than the fish was of me.

The fish dinner perfectly seasoned and broiled. We ate very well there, thanks to Cutco's culinary talents. I don't know if he is saying, 'this is how big the fish was", but it certainly was that big in taste.

Video: Another great supper.

Beautiful lush, rolling hills as far as we can see.

His next door neighbor's house - his sister and brother-in-law - just up the river a quarter mile.  This was a gorgeous country home. This picture was took from the stairs leading up to their bedroom.

Picture perfect with a deck overlooking the river.

Deck overlooking the river.

Any southern town, USA

Tallulah gorge and falls near Clayton.  Spectacular hike down to the river, across a suspension walking bridge. A bit thrilling for me (Gary).

Down at the river - someone said 600 stairs down. I wasn't counting, but I believe it.

A road trip to buy fireworks. Tennessee sells them year round, and hove whole stores pretty much just for that.

Like this joint. They tie in the military, flags, and July 4th.

says it all

Our reliable Toyota Rav 4, mid-sized SUV. As Mike, my brother says, "Nothing rides (through the river) like a rental".

Video: Ride on the backroads

Kudzu - the vine that ate the south. This stuff is out of control. Here it has overgrown a small house. Did it take one day, or maybe they went out of town for the weekend?

Waterfalls

We spent one day touring the biggest waterfalls in the area. We visited the following four. I can't remember their names, but all had a nice walk to the falls and plenty of water flowing.

WF1 - Brett decides to show off his manly arms.

WF2 - Nice swimming hole. Garrett jumps in as usual. Brett shows off his manly chest and sucks in his manly gut.

WF3 - nice. Once again...half boy, half fish.

WF3 from above. Once again, Brett too close to the edge.

WF4 - this was a splendid pair of falls where two rivers join. The one on the left comes from far above.

Walk back from the last waterfall. Brett has an eye for this stuff.

As a bonus, this nice dam is the site of an old mill. We fed tons of fish here -  pay a quarter, get a handful of fish food, just like a hatchery.
