Here are friends I have known throughout my life, in order of appearance.
Rich I have known this guy longer than
anyone, excluding relatives. I went to Kindergarten, and then
all through grammar school and high school with Rich. Read some of Rich's
memories of us growing up together. |
Charlie, Myself, Rich, George. We all grew up in the city together...grades K-12. I missed the annual camping weekend this yr ('07) in favor of a week in Grand Cayman, so a few of us arranged to play golf instead. |
Anthony and Lauri I met them in my sophomore year in the USAF. I was in their wedding in 1975. Anthony forwards email jokes for a living, as well as being on the architecture staff at USC. |
Cutco with his son I met him when I was going to school in Sacramento (1978) - he was in the Air Force. I didn't see or talk with him for 27 years, until just recently. We met at a training event selling Cutco knives and had fun getting out of the knife business. We were good friends for a couple of years. |
Kathy and our son Chris I was married to her for 15 yrs. We didn't get along too well living together, but we have been better friends since. And she is a great mom to our two sons. |
David and Dea. I met David around 1982 at church. We went toe-to-toe playing tennis for many years. His hip started giving him trouble, so he focused on golf. Now we go toe-to toe playing golf. A great friend and life-long amigo. |
Rob Met him around 1983 when we started playing softball together with a church team. We have stayed pretty close ever since. Just finished the '07 softball season. See below for more softball photos. This is on his boat, early in summer at Lake Sonoma with the kids. Life-long friends. |
Mic We also met playing softball about 1995 when I started going through my divorce. He helped get me through it. We have been hanging out ever since. We make a pilgrimage to Scottsdale, Az for spring training every year. This guy is just plain FUN! |
Mac An old friend from work. Can't even say when we met, but we started working closely together around 1997 in a dept of around 14 writers. Then it became just him and I until we both retired in 2015 He introduced me to kayaking several years ago. He has become my spiritual mentor, guitar teacher, and good friend. |
Geoff An old friend from work. Like Mac, I can't even say when we met. Somewhere around when I met June, we discovered that we both liked golf. We have played countless rounds together, and traveled with the ladies to many places, some of them not even for golf. |
Ed
(third from the left in the
blue shirt.) Sometime after meeting June on the
tennis court, I became a member at the Airport Club, mainly for
the tennis. One sunny morning as I was meeting the usual
'round-robin' crowd, I walked passed a guy sitting outside the
courts by himself. At the time I was actively recruiting people
at my level to play with, so I turned and introduced myself. I
struck the motherlode! Not only are he and I regular hitting
partners, he
was the captain of this tennis team (shown above) which I
obviously joined. What a great bunch of guys! We have also traveled together with
the ladies to Indian Wells a couple of times. Ed is also a very
handy guy, so I go to him often for project advice and to borrow
his tools. I'm just not sure what HE gets out of our relationship. |
CMA Church Softball team of 1988 By this time I had been playing with the team for a couple of years. I had taken Chris to Sat afternoon practices in a playpen behind the dugout. Rob, standing third from the right - long hair - has been carrying this around in his bag for ?? years Rich Thomas, on the ground in front of me, baptized both Chris and Brett. Dr. McCarthy, front row 2nd from left, delivered both boys. |
Redwood Trust
Deed team of 2008 We started playing in a standard SR
city league in roughly 1998. It eventually evolved into this
team. Brett took this picture minutes after a walk-off win to cap a 10-2 season to win the league. Rob's company sponsors the team. Helmut and Mike, standing 3rd and 4th from right, also played in the good ole days. |
